Welcome (If you don't see the Menu Pane, Click Here)
This site is for new users to Wise Solutions' Wise Package Studio to help them get up and running and solve most of their initial questions. This includes how-to install/setup Wise Package Studio, how-to create, edit and modify MSI packages and transforms as well as various not so obvious tricks. For those not in the know, Wise Package Studio (WPS) is a software installation tool for the Windows platform. It is used to create and edit installation packages that have a .MSI file extension which is now the standard packaging format for the Windows platform. (Yes, I could have called the site: “MSI for Dummies”, “WPS for Dummies” or even “Packaging for Dummies” but some people would object.)
When I was new to Wise I was surprised at how little information was out there. The Wise manuals were lite and like the MSI SDK, it assumed that you knew a fair bit about MSI. This is my stab at the problem.
Be warned, however, that I explain things with all the gory details and I assume that you know basic things like how to partition and image hard drives, install Windows and tweak the registry. What I present is what I would consider the best way to do things. Cutting corners will be up to you.
NOTE: To ask for help for your specific application that you are packaging, you should go to Wise's Newsgroups. If I missed a topic that should be covered, however, please let me know.
